Roblox is a global immersive platform with an average daily active user base of more than 70 million. Users can create and publish games and worlds on this platform, users from all over the world communicate through the creation and playing of these experiences.

Kodansha Game Creators Lab (GCL) is dedicated to supporting indie game creators through various means, including funding and production assistance. In collaboration with GeekOut  Inc.(located in Minato-ku, Tokyo, CEO: Soichiro Tanaka, hereinafter referred to as “GeekOut”),a company with extensive connections and insights into Roblox, we are excited to announce the “Roblox Original Experience Production Contest” (ROECC), based on the Geekout Creator Incubation Program.

In this contest, we will be licensing, planning, reviewing, supervising, and providing production assistance for “Attack on Titan” experiences. We invite creators to submit original proposals for Roblox games inspired by the “Attack on Titan” comics published by Kodansha. Selected proposals stand to receive up to $1.5 million (approx. 200 million JPY) in development funds from GeekOut, with support from Kodansha GCL throughout production and post-release operation.

Applicants are required to join the dedicated Discord server or Guilded community for detailed application instructions, briefing sessions, Q&A sessions, and access to the application form.

The games developed for this project will be deemed derivative works of the original content, and discussions regarding ownership rights and permissions for use will take place during the interview process, contingent upon the content of the proposal.

Eligibility

  • Mandatory: Joining the dedicated Discord server or Guilded. ※Please comply with the terms of each service.
  • No restrictions on age, nationality, or background. Minors require consent from a parent or legal guardian.
  • Open to both individuals and corporations.

How to Apply

Fill out the application form, which will be posted on Discord or Guilded, with basic information such as name and contact information. Submit along with proposal and resume.

Selection Process.

  • Document screening → Interview → Explanation of contract details and confirmation of award intention → Award.
  • Rigorous review conducted by GeekOut under GCL cooperation.

About the application

Proposals should be themed on “Attack on Titan” and written in either Japanese or English. Details include game system, design, billing system, development and operation plans, and schedule. Proposals must be original and unpublished on Roblox at the time of application.

Animation materials cannot be used.

Proposals should be enjoyable for Roblox users worldwide while leveraging the original work.

Additionally, proposals must not be publicly available on Roblox at the time of application.

We kindly request participants to refrain from infringing on the author’s moral rights or causing any harm to their honor or reputation. Additionally, Kodansha’s representative in this matter is GCL. Therefore, we ask participants to avoid contacting the editorial department of Weekly Shonen Magazine.

Rights and Contract

  • The copyright of the submitted proposal and the resulting work belongs jointly to the applicant and the original author, and neither can be published without the other’s permission. If your proposal is selected, you will enter into an agreement with GeekOut, which has obtained permission from Kodansha to host this competition, regarding the outcomes of the project (hereinafter referred to as “the Contract”).
  • No rights or obligations arise between the entrant and Kodansha or GeekOut in relation to this competition until the Contract is formally signed. The legal relationship between the entrants and Kodansha after the Contract has been signed will be governed by the terms of the Contract.
  • Due to the nature of the Contract, the production process may involve confirmations and requests for revisions from the original author and the editorial staff of Weekly Shonen Magazine. Entrants are responsible for making any necessary revisions.
  • The contents of the Contract will be thoroughly explained before the interview and signing, and it will be executed only upon your agreement. Applying does not imply agreement.
